I started my new job at DHS in Batesville on Monday. Not too much time for crafts anymore, but I have been trying to get some scrapbooking done in the afternoons. I'll try to post some pics! Happy crafting!

Kindle Bags

With 2 new Kindle Fires and a Kindle in the house, we needed something to carry/store them in that was padded. Check out Rose's Kindle Bag, to quote her, "I'm stylin' now!" :)

I made a larger, brown suede bag for Joe (no strap). I'll try to post pictures.

I've never tried to explain how to sew something before, so if you have questions about my terminology or directions, please post a comment. I'll try to get pictures of my next bag(s) and post pictures with the step-by-step instructions!

These bags are just too easy to make. If you can make a pillow case, you can make these bags! Depending on the size of your device, cut your outer material and your lining material in a long rectangle. Allow at least two inches for seams and turning the bag and I suggest at least 1 inch on each side so it's not difficult to get your device in & out.

Sew the outside & inside material together along one short side and the two long sides--making sure the material looks "inside out." After the material is sewn into the pillowcase, turn material inside-out. The seams should be hidden in the pillow case. Cut a rectangle piece of quilt batting to fit inside the pillow case bag. Once the bag is stuffed with the quilt batting, turn down the raw edge of the short end (not already sewn). If you turn this edge down twice, you will have a "shirt tail" seam once you sew across the material that is turned down.

Fold the material where one side is just a little longer than the other--this will allow for a closure if you want one. Sew the sides together--being careful to use as small as seam as possible depending on how much allowance you cut for the seam. (Nothing is more frustrating than having a finished product that your device does not fit into!)

If you chose to have a closure flap, you can sew snaps, button & button hole, button and loop, etc...whatever your preferred method of closure. And if you want a strap (like a bag or purse), sew to the inside corners just below the closure.

The Bag that Started it All!

Mom, Sari & I have been making tote bags and quilted purses lately. Sari got us started when we made one for her Phi Mu sister for Christmas.

Since then we've made one for Tilar, Rose, Mom, working on one for Madie & for my mother-in-law.

Granny Burlean was at Mom's today and helped us figure out a way to make the lining more easily! Very special times--making bags & memories with Mom & Granny!
